JHSCSO is a dynamic growing organization with volunteer opportunities in residential, group and community programming and Restorative Justice (Facilitators/Mentors).
If you would like to become involved, please complete and submit the volunteer application form. If you are not sure how you would like to be involved, give us all call to talk about your interests. We would love to hear from you!

How can I volunteer for the Restorative Resolutions program?
Restorative Resolutions relies heavily upon volunteer support. Volunteers serve in the following roles: Lead Facilitator, Co-Facilitator, and Mentor. All volunteers receive RCMP Facilitator Training and Certification, as well as ongoing volunteer training from the John Howard Society.
Time commitment: minimum 2-4 hours a month/depends on your role and desired number of volunteer hours. Most volunteers serve 4-6 hours a month.

What do you look for in a volunteer?
Volunteers should have strengths in communication, active listening, problem solving, working under pressure, and conflict resolution. Furthermore, it is imperative that volunteers are able to refrain from making character judgements of clients, and focus on how to facilitate healing and restoration for those impacted by crime.

Volunteers must be aware that many of our clients have complex health and social needs, for which networking with other social agencies will be required. As such, volunteers should have a strong sense of self- awareness of personal skills and know when to refer to other professionals who may have greater knowledge, skill and experience. Finally, volunteers MUST be able to maintain confidentiality regarding all clients and cases.

Many of our volunteers have backgrounds in social work, law, counselling and social sciences. Students are very welcome to volunteer for our program.
