Who is the John Howard Society?
* The John Howard Society of Canada (JHSC) is a national, provincial and territorial Society comprised of and governed by people whose goal is to understand and respond to social and health related problems with a focus oncriminal justice
* .John Howard Society (JHS) is a national non-governmental organization and a registered charity that operates in over 75 communities across Canada providing more than 450 programs and services
* .Regionally the Society is managed by a locally elected volunteer Board of Directors
* .JHS has a long history of service provision in the Central Okanagan that dates back over 60 years
* JHS has a strong community presence, well-established professional working relationships with community organizations and the criminal justice system and we are a key stakeholder in issues relating to criminal and social justice

That everyone is responsible for the Criminal Justice System in his/her community.
CRIME PREVENTION
That the prevention of crime should be a priority for all local, provincial and federal governments.
DRUGS AND CRIME
That increased public education and prevention programs be supported; that harm reduction strategies, low barrier services and a continuum of care be available; that drug use is a health issue, not a criminal offence.
RESTORATIVE JUSTICE
That government and communities work together to enhance the criminal justice system through the expansion of victim offender mediation / conflict resolution / healing and reconciliation.
What does John Howard Society do?
The fundamental purpose of John Howard Society is to understand and respond to problems of crime and the criminal justice system through education, rehabilitation and the provision of crime prevention programs and services.
Specifically, we:
* Develop and deliver programs and services consistent with our objectives
* Research justice issues and make recommendations
* Provide public education and awareness
