February 8th, 2008
On February 8th, 2008, John Howard Society of the Central and South Okanagan hosted a COMMUNITY FORUM on
“Crime Prevention & Sustaining Healthy Communities”.
The forum began with a presentation by Guest Speaker - Dr. Craig Jones, Criminologist, Researcher and Executive Director of
John Howard Society of Canada, that highlighted the use of harm reduction as an effective response required to meet the changing needs of communities brought on by rapid economic growth. The presentation was followed by a moderated question and answer period with a panel of local experts that explored many concepts, including the need and support for a Sobering Centre in Kelowna.
The forum was co-sponsored by City of Kelowna and John Howard Society of Canada.
